Bart J.M. Melis was born in 1968 in the Netherlands. He studied theoretical physics in Nijmegen and graduated in 1990 with a specialization in Medicine and Biophysics. He finished his PhD-study on the topic of Plasticity and Kinematic Constraints in 3D Eye-Head Control in 1996. Since then he has worked as Clinical Physicist for Royal Dutch Visio, Centre of Expertise for Blind and Partially Sighted People. In this position, he specializes in the rehabilitation of visually impaired people with respect to mobility and accessibility issues (including driving, slow motorized traffic, Shared Space). Bart is an ISLRR-member since 1996 and chairman of the Dutch Society of Rehabilitation of Visual Impairment (VRS). He is married to Dénise Dankers and they have three children.
