Vijaya K. Gothwal completed her undergraduation in Optometry from the Elite School of Optometry, Chennai, India. She pursued her postgraduation and PhD in Low Vision from the Queensland University of Technology, Brisbane, Australia. During her Masters and PhD program, she conducted her research work on self-reports and performance-based measures of functional vision performance in children with low vision. Dr. Gothwal was presented the Constance Atwell award for excellence in low vision research by the Low Vision Research Group at ARVO in 2002. She completed a postdoc fellowship from the Flinders University, Australia and her research was patient-reported outcome measures. She is a fellow of the American Academy of Optometry. Dr. Gothwal’s clinical and research area of expertise is in low vision rehabilitation and she has been instrumental in setting up the low vision centre at the L V Prasad Eye Institute (LVPEI), Hyderabad, India and continues to head it. She has been working with the LVPEI for the last 26 years. She has authored more than 85 publications in several peer-reviewed journals and has made presentations at several international meetings including the ARVO, AAO and the International Conference on Low Vision. Her research interests include patient-reported outcome measures in ophthalmology and optometry, outcomes of low vision interventions, models of low vision service delivery and quality of life.
