Ekeoma Adure Edemeraro

Dr Ekeoma Adure Edemeraro obtained her Doctor of Optometry (OD) degree from the School of Optometry, Imo State University, Nigeria; where she was received several awards amongst which is the Overall best graduating student of her set. She also holds a Masters of Science degree in Public Health from the University of Lagos, Nigeria. She has a Fellowship in Rehabilitative Optometry and Low Vision from the Nigerian Postgraduate College of Optometry and is also a Fellow in Clinical Optometry from LV Prasad Eye Institute, Hyderabad, India. Dr Edemeraro is instrumental in setting up the low vision unit of DIA Hospital, Abuja, Nigeria; where she is currently serving as deputy director, head of the Optometry department and low vision consultant. She is also the Programme Coordinator for the Bridge of Sight Foundation, Nigeria; a non-governmental organisation who is one of the 2021 recipients of the prestigious Novartis  XOVA Award, currently carrying out an eyecare project aimed at Improving the uptake of low services amongst school-going children with Oculocutaneous Albinism in North Central Region of Nigeria. Dr Edemeraro is a recipient of several awards such as the National Youths Service Corps (NYSC) Commendation Award for contribution to the development of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Abuja, Nigeria for her work in Community Eye Health Service. Others include the Commonwealth Eye health Consortium Fellowship, The Peter Ackland/PEEK Scholarship award and ISLRR Travel Fellowship Awards. Adure has presented several papers and lectures at national and international conferences. She is also involved in the capacity building of optometrists and other eye care personnel in clinical low vision rehabilitation. Dr Edemeraro is a member of the committee involved in the two recent publications by the Federal Ministry of Health, Nigeria: Treatment Guidelines for Delivery of Child Eye Health Services in Nigeria as well as The Performance Standards for Provision of Child Eye Health Services in Nigeria. Her clinical and research interests are in posterior segment diseases, patient reported outcomes in utilization of low vision services and quality of life of patients with low vision. She is happily married and blessed with children.
