We are at an exciting time in the field of low vision research and rehabilitation. Rapid development of human-computer-interface technologies holds promise for assistive devices. Advances in neuroscience and our understanding of processing and neuroplasticity within the human visual system is providing new opportunities for rehabilitation and treatment strategies. Initiatives to improve access to eye and vision health care and the provision of community supports have been successful in many countries. The role of ISLRR is to bring together members of the low vision research and rehabilitation community to innovate, translate research to the real world and improve the lives of people living with low vision.
ISLRR members are the core of our Society and contribute to all aspects of our work. If you are not already a member, please join us! More information on ISLRR membership can be found here. I look forward to working with the ISLRR community as we pursue our objectives of stimulating scientific research and promoting the exchange of information in the field of low vision.
