Dr. Ekeoma Adure Edemeraro earned her Doctor of Optometry (OD) degree from the School of Optometry, Imo State University, Nigeria, where she graduated as the overall best student in her class. She holds a Master of Science degree in Public Health from the University of Lagos, Nigeria, and an additional Master in Strategic Management and Policy Studies from the Nigerian Defence Academy. Dr. Edemeraro is a Fellow of the American Academy of Optometry and the Nigerian Army Resource Centre. Furthermore, she has completed Fellowships in Clinical Optometry at the LV Prasad Eye Institute, Hyderabad, India, and in Rehabilitative Optometry and Low Vision Care at the Nigerian Postgraduate College of Optometry.
Dr. Edemeraro is a practicing Public Health and Low Vision Optometrist based in Abuja, Nigeria. She also serves as Programme Coordinator for the Bridge of Sight Foundation, a Nigerian non-governmental organization, that was one of the 2021 grant recipients of the prestigious Novartis eXcellence in Ophthalmology Vision (XOVA) Award. The awarded project focused on enhancing the access and uptake of low vision services among school-going children with Oculo-Cutaneous Albinism in Nigeria's North Central region.
Dr. Edemeraro has been the recipient of numerous awards, including the Commonwealth Eye Health Consortium Fellowship, the Peter Ackland/PEEK Scholarship, and the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) Commendation Award for her contributions to community eye health services in the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja. She has presented numerous papers and lectures at both national and international conferences. She is actively engaged in public eye health advocacy and capacity-building initiatives of optometry students, optometrists, and other eye care professionals in clinical low vision rehabilitation and various aspects of eye care.
Additionally, Dr. Edemeraro served on the committee responsible for developing the Treatment Guidelines and Performance Standards for Child Eye Health Services in Nigeria. Her clinical and research interests focus on public eye health, posterior segment diseases, patient-reported outcomes in low vision services, and the quality of life for individuals with low vision.
